DONATE YOUR CELL PHONE – Please help the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence with your donation of deactivated cell and wireless phones. These phones become important tools when provided to victims of domestic violence who may encounter emergency situations. They are programmed to only ring through to 911 and cannot be used for any other calls. The lifeline provided by donated phones has literally saved many lives. We will have a donation box in the foyer of Temple Beth El. This drive is ongoing and we will send the phones to NCADV throughout the year. Please erase all personal information from your phones. We do not need the charging cords, only the handsets. Thank you for contributing to this important and lifesaving cause. If you have any questions, contact Vicki at 310-377-6128 or bridalsweet@aol.com
Food for Toberman Neighborhood Center In Fall 2008, our Temple will become participants in the after-school meal program at Toberman Neighborhood Center. Once a month, we will prepare a nutritious, hot meal for the children who rely on Toberman for a safe place to come to after school. Often times, this meal is the only hot meal these children eat for the day. This is the perfect opportunity for havurot, families, and individuals to become involved in community social action. We only need about 4-5 helpers on meal day and as many as want to help with shopping and meal preparation beforehand. Please consider participating in this worthwhile project. We will begin setting up the schedule in the weeks ahead. For more information, please email Vicki at bridalsweet@aol.com or call 377-6128. “Knitzvah Corps” Like to knit, crochet, quilt or do other handwork? Join us on Sunday mornings when Torah School is in session for another opportunity to do your thing. Some of us are willing to help those who would like to learn to do so. Come on in and ask! Whether you are working on a project for your own family or for others, come and chat with us. For those who are interested in tzedakah, there will be patterns available for chemo caps, baby blankets, hats, socks, sweaters - even some yarn for your use. To learn more about the worldwide need for donation of these types of items, check out www.warmwoolies.org and www.warmupamerica.com. Between such organizations and our local agencies, we will never run out of opportunities. To that end, if you have a contact in a local agency that has a particular need for any of these types of articles, or if you would like more information about the “Knitzvah Corp,” contact Maxine Lebowitz at Sanpedrowalker@aol.com or 310-519-1734. And, if you have duplicate size needles and/or yarn you are not using, feel free to drop them off at the Temple for donation to the “Corp.” |
